Our Mission

Polyhymnia's twofold mission of evangelization and education seeks to promote the beauty of sacred music in parish communities through liturgy, performance, mentoring, and instruction.

2. Education

"To equip the holy ones for the work of ministry for building up the body of Christ"
-Ephesians 4:12

Catechesis need not stop at Confirmation or graduation. That is why Polyhymnia is committed to educating both Christians and non-Christians alike about the history, form, and place of sacred music. Our goal is to teach the public about the Church’s patrimony of sacred music in its many styles and forms and how it can be properly employed in Mass, prayer, and performance.

How we teach:

  1. Liturgies that show by way of example

  2. Inclusive liturgical events

  3. Concert booklets featuring music history and insights

  4. Workshops for parish musicians

  5. Summer camps for young singers (under 18)

  6. Private lessons (voice, organ, piano)

1. Evangelization

"The musical tradition of the universal Church is a treasure of inestimable value, greater even than that of any other art." Catechism of the Catholic Church 1156

Polyhymnia seeks to share the Gospel through via pulchritudinis, the way of beauty found in the church’s treasury of sacred music. Exposure to this transcendent beauty disposes the hearts of both Christians and non-Christians alike to encounter Jesus Christ, who is the "Beauty of Holiness Incarnate." Via Pulchritudinis, 2006

Our methods of evangelization comprise three primary modes of outreach:

  1. Concerts, themed for various devotions and liturgical seasons

  2. Masses and vespers

  3. Music recordings posted online
